Kevin Brought the Soup...Hunter Brought the Heat

I always want to push the envelope, take risks, and not play it safe. I also really want to follow the by-laws of Soup Club so here we go….
I found inspiration through Eric, as he always has chicken fried rice for lunch. Why not chicken fried rice soup? Now modifications must be made to accommodate not just Soup Club, but the dietary requirements of all of its members.
I asked my wife to shop for me this weekend as I had a robotics competition in Woodhaven, in preparing the shopping list I was able to take carrots off the list as we just got a bunch from our garden. Everything was low sodium, tofu for the veggie people and chicken thighs for the carnos.
Soup making day was Monday after work. Got home and needed to get this done so I could go to my robotics meeting. Since a lot of the ingredients needed to be separated, I got the rice cooking, chicken marinating, and tofu pressed and cubed. The rice came out of the oven, and the tofu immediately went in. While this was happening, I started to prep for the base of the soup. As items cooled, I put them in their containers and moved on to the next item. I took a break when all that was left was the eggs and went to robotics to see my high schoolers and ensure they were taken care of. One hour later I’m back at it, cooking and slicing the egg. I tasted the broth and knew it needed more salt, but wanted to maintain the health factor, understanding adding salt it easy to do by fellow Soup Club members.
The next morning, I got everything to the office, set it up, and awaited the time to start.
It took me about 30 minutes to cook additional rice and prep all the bottomers and toppers.
The line started, soup was served, and the results are in:
Conlan recognized that I was swinging big, the soup needed salt, 6.5 with an upgraded 7.5 from Hunters siracha.
Josephene thought the same, gave it a 7 and upped it to a 9 with salt and siracha.
Tam thought it was very healthy and gave it a 9 and upped to a 9.5 with salt and siracha
Adam, like Conlan, recognized I tried very hard to make this happen and gave it a 6 since the salt/heat wasn’t there
Jeff thought it was outstanding, had two bowls even though he went in thinking he would have only one and gave it a 10….THANK YOU!
Marketing Mike echoed the prior feedback, started at a 7 and upped to 9 with salt and siracha
Soup Club Average: 8.5 (Next time I will just add salt and heat…. 😊)
Cambells Crew:
· Hunter 8.5 (This means a normal person’s 6)
· Felton 7.5 (Felton started at a 5, though via a private conversation didn’t know salt and hot sauce was required to add)
Overall, an 8.5 is very respectable and all the feedback was spot on. Always happy to try new things and see what we can do here at Soup Club.
Next up is Conlan, always looking forward to his soup!
