Oompa Loompa, Doompety Doo...Hunter Forgot the SpudBowls™ Again!

Today was a very special Soup Club! We've been looking forward to Felton dressing up as Willy Wonka and scooping soup. But we've REALLY been looking forward to Hunter finally bringing in 10 SpudBowls™.

Let's start with the bad news...NO SPUDBOWLS! The dude has had THREE solid weeks to figure this out. PLUS, he fully committed to Marketing Mike that the SpudBowls™ would be in the house today. Marketing Mike planned his ENTIRE soup around the SpudBowl™. Nope! Apparently Hunter either forgot, decided to play golf, or got distracted watching football. We heard a variety of excuses, none of which resulted in an actual potato. Three weeks. Zero SpudBowls™.

Now the good news...Felton not only knocked the cover off the ball as Willy Wonka, but he also brought TWO of his world-famous Oompa Loompas! This was an impressive touch that will surely be remembered by everyone who witnessed it. For at least a week.

Marketing Mike always seems to stress us out on Soup Club Tuesdays. Well, me anyway. We rarely know if he's actually going to show up, but somehow he never lets us down. Today was no exception.

At precisely 11:57 a.m., Marketing Mike came strutting through the door carrying a laundry basket full of goodies. He set everything up in approximately 48 seconds. And we souped. Just like that!

Let's see what the expert tasting panel thought.

Soup Club Feedback:

  • Jeff: My first reaction was that the soup was too loose, didn't have a great "pull," and seemed to be missing something. I added a dash of smoked salt and some hot sauce, and suddenly the flavor BLEW UP! It actually got better with every spoonful. I originally had a 7.5 written down, but just before showtime, I bumped it to an 8.5.

  • Adam: "Delicious!" Short, sweet, and a "solid 9.0."

  • Tam: "I love mushrooms, and this soup has great flavor!" 9.0!

  • Josephine: Thought the soup was "amazing" and gave it the highest Soup Club score of the day. 9.5!

  • Conlan: Managed to describe the soup as "flavorful" in three different ways before finally settling on an 8.5. Apparently it was flavorful.

  • Kevin: "The flavor was great!" He started at an 8.5 without hot sauce and bumped it to a 9.0 with hot sauce. Kevin also pointed out that this would've been a 9.5 with a SpudBowl™. Hunter, are you listening?

Soup Club Average: 8.91

Campbell's Crew™:

  • Hunter: "I'm not a mushroom guy..." Then something about learning to appreciate mushrooms, or growing as a person, or whatever. 9.5! Apparently Hunter is learning to appreciate mushrooms faster than he's learning to bake potatoes.

  • Marco: "I'm also not a mushroom guy. I HATE mushrooms! But I did love the tofu!" 7.0. He did clarify that this would've been a solid 10.0 if the mushrooms had been replaced with pork belly. Of course it would have. At least he's trying the tofu. Baby steps.

  • Felton: After an absolutely outstanding performance as Willy Wonka, Felton returned to his usual soup-evaluation philosophy. "I prefer meat." But thanks to the hot sauce, he gave it an 8.5.

Campbell's Crew™ Average: 8.33

All in all, another great Soup Club meeting! We had Willy Wonka. We had two Oompa Loompas. We had a laundry basket full of soup supplies. We had great soup, plenty of laughs, and absolutely no SpudBowls™. I'm starting to think the SpudBowl™ might be the greatest product never actually produced.

And naturally, we already have a tiny bit of drama brewing for next week…Adam wanted to trade weeks with Josephine. But now Adam has to make soup next week because he can't do it the following week. So, as of right now...Adam is up next! At least that's the plan.

Stay tuned!
